    >So we will assume by his actions...

The Star employs Asses. I'm referring to the old adage about 'assume'. I'm not about to assume anything about the dead mans guilt or innocence.

As far as I know, The Stars editor had a Great-Grandmother who was a fucking witch that whored her rank carcass around the Yukon at the time of the Gold Rush. When the Rush was over she followed lumberjacks looking for wood and eventually became expert in the use of a chopper (BritSlang: chopper=dick).

What? She's dead? Well I guess she must have done all of these things... and more...

    edit: Spelling.

edit: and *more* spelling - thanks coleman!

    That is a good one.

Compared to many other movies (I'm looking at you, Withnail and I) it's a not very often quoted script. Star Wars — a very good movie by at least my reckoning — is quoted more often than Blade Runner despite Blade Runner's dealing directly with issues that run a lot deeper than the easily digestible Jedi vs. Empire/Good vs Evil stories to be found in one of the most popular and profitable franchises in movie history.

I prefer Blade Runner over Star Wars but the two are of such different genres it's impossible to compare them without making nonsensical reductions or assumptions.

Actually, considering where you shot me and how I died (you can determine I died by bleeding out through an autopsy or whatever), the most you would be charged with is involuntary manslaughter and a few other lovely charges associated with using a gun. But none of them would be first-degree murder because your intent was clearly *not* to kill me as evidenced by where you shot me and the degree of unlikeliness surrounds shooting me in the leg and severing an artery. If, after you shot me and noticed that I was bleeding out, you did your best to stop the bleeding and rushed me to a hospital, you'd have an even *stronger* case in your favor.

I mean, the prosecution may try to get you for first-degree murder, but it's unlikely that it would happen.

Edit: I realize at this point it seems like I'm beating a dead horse. Don't mean to do that. In fact, I meant this to just be a closing post. I'm terrible at those.

    Hah.

    Cheers!

Just a little nit, but "defun, cad [sic], and cdr" are not syntax. They are functions (or macros). One of the values in learning Lisp is the superfluity of syntax, as Lisp has almost no syntax (s-expressions obviate the need for more complex syntax).

I think you would be hard pressed to find a decent language that doesn't have "vocabulary" that you need to learn in order to use its basic tools. "defun" exists because you define different kinds of things -- it's a choice made by the designer.

seriously. If photography is your dream, if its really what you want to do then go for it. go to college and take classes in photography live your dream. get a part time job at one of those chain portrait studios while in school just to get some more experience. go out and take pics everyday. Be great!

I wanted to be a photographer back when I was in high school but the councilor told me it would not be a good high paying job and to think of something else. and I did. but not until I had one year of college... I couldn't think of anything else I wanted to do...

The big things. Basicly what the systenm really needs is a massive shake up. The short term results of t=such a shakeup wll be devastating and extremely destructive to the US and the rest of the world.

    1) Review and re build the Judicial system. From the ground up.

    2) All memebrs of the governemt make their finances open to the public.

    3) All co orperations requred to be responsible for their actions.

    4) Any company that grows big enough to affect the economy on a reasonable scale required to be part IRS monitored.

    5) Public protection systemthat provoides all basic needs to people that need help. Social security for those that can prove they are looking for work (including doing volentary work)

    6) An educaiton system that does not lay claim to any religion (while allowing religion driven schools to teach from the syllabus as well as their veiws)

    7) An open immergration policy that allows anyone to move to America as long as they can prove they have a desire to work.

    > Whilst I am disgusted with terror in all forms I think the amount of terror exported by the Israeli terror machine is orders, orders of magnitude greater than anything Hamas has done.

Of course that wouldn't be true if you examined the whole conflict, and especially its roots, which is something jews are intimately acquainted with.

    > But well done, you failed the terrorist test – you believe your terror is justified and the other parties isn’t. It a classic schoolboy error and your guilty as charged. You are nothing more than a terrorist sympathiser.

No. What I believe is that terrorism as a concept applies only to independent non-state actors, because they are unaccountable within the existing system of law. State actors like Iran and Syria can wage terrorism on Israel without being held accountable. This makes terrorists weapons, and sanctity of their lives is forfeited.

    > You want people to spend time criticising someone who has 'a spec of saw dust in the eye' over someone who has a fucking great big plank of wood in theirs?

I want people to not base their judgement on obstruction and falsehood.

    > I also have a particular revulsion to the Israeli terrorism as my family had a (small) part in the creation of the state of Israel. As a British citizen I also feel bad as we enabled the state of Israel to be declared.

    Leftist white guilt? Pathetic.

I just want to point out that in many of these arguments people are equating political stances/decisions/actions (yes, military counts in that realm) with the will and desire of the respective nations' populations. This is as ludicrous as saying all Americans are ignorant xenophobes because our thankfully former president decided to unilaterally attack Iraq, a nation that posed no direct threat to us. I sure didnt support that move, and tried to make my voice heard on the matter.

Many Israelis protest their government's actions, even more disagree with them. As we've recently seen, many Iranians protest their government's actions, and even more disagree with them.

I guess I'm really just trying to say that politics is inherently anti-humanist, and primarily just a power play between wealthy parties vying over whose dick is bigger (at least in this case).

i don't care what your party is. if you arrived at those conclusions with the same steel-trap logic with which you have conducted this conversation, then i have no doubt you came to your decision for the very best of reasons.

for the record, i am an anarchist. however, for the purposes of conversation and the fact there are only two parties to choose from in this country that has claimed me, the republicans are the closest thing available.

but again, it makes no difference whether i am a republican or not. to make a statement like "all republicans are teabaggers" is patently false in a demonstrable way.

This is an argument that is very hard to resolve because of people's admiration for hl2. I personally won't like it if someone says a newer 2d game is better than super metroid. It's just *one of those* arguments.

I know that hl2 has a lot of things going for it. The incredible story, characters, setting, good graphics, puzzles, engine, everything is top notch. But it's not more fun than cod. Even though cod it's a sraight shooter and doesn't making you think. The incredible polish the game has received is to be recognized.

You can *feel* it when you're stabbing someone, I have never seen a better melee attack in all of gaming. Or when you're running around and releasing the shotgun in someone's face. The ability to prone is also awesome. It's all in the details. Look at the way you cook the grenade, which other game let's you throw a grenade *that* perfectly? And I didn't even get to single player yet.

Look at how many people play this game like it's crack. I personally have put around 30 days into the game, before this, tekken and street fighter were my most played games, but this game ruined other games for me.

TBH these two games aren't really comparable, the only thing they have in common is the FPS part. When I made the original comment I wasn't even thinking of HL2 because I don't really consider it to be in the same category.

I had a good buddy who used to deal. It was a similar situation. He was a really good friend from high school. We had hung out and everything all the time before I really smoked ever. He was also there when I smoked my first time.

Well we both moved to different places and had different experiences once in college. We hung out on occasion but generally were out of touch.

One day I move to the town he was living when I transferred to my current school. My new roommates were smoking just shitty shitty stuff that they were ripped off for. I had yet to meet anyone who had anything good in town but I thought about calling my buddy because I thought he would know. He did, he referred me to himself. I was slightly shocked but overjoyed.

We were old friends reunited. It was great. I still had to respect him in the capacity as a dealer as well as a friend. He did not always give me discounts and I did not expect them. But he would eventually just give me them all the time. I would go over and hang out with him and his friends. We would go out to bars. Just hang out. Beyond what he can offer as a dealer he should always foremost be your friend.

As long as I treated him fairly and we hung out, I never felt like I was using him and vice versa.

    >I haven't been there

Then I recommend you visit. There is indeed discrimination: Jewish and Arab municipalities get different levels of government funding. That's a problem we need to fix; I admit it.

I keep saying "Arab" because Arabs have their own language and customs. Personally, I tend to say that if someone has their own language they qualify as a separate people.

    >There's also the matter of the way Palestinians in particular are treated, especially the blockade and bombardment of Gaza.

    Gaza is not in Israel.

No, I tried lots of different ways to advertise on it. With Adsense, for instance, out of 10,000 page views, I would get MAYBE 10 clicks a day. I would literally make about $1 a month. So, I lied when I said I never made a dime. I made enough to order a tall coffee at Starbucks every two months.

I tried other advertising models, too. They were worse.

Oh, and yes, I was not in this for the money, I just wanted to see if I could make money at it. I still run the site, but there have been no ads for over a year, and its popularity has waned.

You do understand that big government works side by side with these so called evil corporations right? And that the government makes sure the private sector doesn't work to eliminate the big corporations. Libertarians would actually be tougher on big business than any liberal who just hands them more money because they are 'too big to fail'. Bush 8 years consisted of big government legislation such as patriot act/big government spending. Your ideas have failed and it is about time we tried smaller government approach.

I make money and allocate 98.9% of it to real life. I feel strong obligations to my family and society, and general courtesy. I look at my macro environment and I hate how I can't fix it. I look at my local environment and I feel like a cog. I look at my house and I can keep that clean but I know that there is a lot I don't know about the undercurrents in the neighborhood, local government, and related organizational bodies. I know I'm failing to identify all the traps which might make my food, clothing, and shelter harder or more expensive to maintain.

I can claim social identity which is a tight fit without compromising anything about myself on the Internet. I can visit social sites which share my ideology, deviations, tendencies, points of pride, allowable obscenity, joys, passions, etc.

If you spread your internet activity bare to everyone in 5 mile radius from your house what would happen? These legal 'peers' would judge you and through the filter of society and law.

I know I would be found lacking by nature of how much 'average' I am surrounded with. Isn't society something you can opt-out of by moving to another country? If these peers would find us lacking as a member of society, why haven't we moved yet? Where can we go? I can't fix my macro environment.

**tl;dr: I can't care for internet life more than real life because of obligations.**

Just sent to her, cc'd to the editor:

Ms. Dimanno, what is wrong with you? You don't know this man, you don't know his guilt. Lets not "assume" anybody's guilt (especially the dead!) for the purpose of an article or any other reason!

Innocent until proven guilty. Here's another guess as to why someone in this position could kill themselves - because every single news organization in Canada displayed his face and called him an "alleged" pedophile. He'd never be able to go out again, regardless of guilt or innocence, without hatred and disgusted looks from passers by.

I have no sympathy for proven pedophiles, but opinionated trash like that has no place in a Canadian news organization; and of the person who would write such trash against a dead man - and by extension against the very person and emotions of his most definitely innocent family - I would say you should take a long look in the mirror, and perhaps consider a new career.
